Standard Single-Run License

The Standard Single-Run License is the default agreement Acme News provides when you license content from our archives or current reporting. It’s designed to give news outlets simple, perpetual rights to use content in one specific story, edition, or segment, while protecting the value of our work.

What does “single-run” mean?

  • A single run means your license covers one original use — for example:

    • One newspaper edition.

    • One article or page on your website.

    • One broadcast segment.

  • You may keep the content in that original use forever (perpetual rights).

  • Any new use (a new article, reprint, or different outlet) requires a new license.

Outlet and Territory Restrictions

  • Each license is tied to the specific outlet and territory listed on your News Outlet Registration Form.

  • You cannot share licensed content with partner stations, syndication networks, or sister publications.

  • If you want to use content in multiple outlets or territories, each requires a separate license.

  • Editorial Use Only

  • Licensed Works are provided strictly for editorial use in news reporting, commentary, or educational content.

  • You may not use Acme News content in advertising, promotions, or endorsements without a separate commercial license.

  • Credit & Attribution

Every use of Acme News content must carry proper credit:

    • Print & Web: “[Photographer/Author Name] / Acme News” (or “[Acme News Archive]” if applicable).

    • Broadcast: On-screen or verbal acknowledgment once per segment.

Failure to provide credit may result in additional fees.

    Archival Rights

The license is perpetual for your original use. This means:

    • Print editions may remain in archives, bound copies, or microfilm.

    • Web articles may remain in your digital archives indefinitely.

    • Broadcast segments may remain in station archives or on-demand libraries.

However, archival rights are limited to the original use. Reusing the content in a new story, edition, or program requires a new license.

    Specimens (Complimentary Copies)

We ask outlets to provide a specimen copy of each licensed use:

    • A PDF or physical copy of the print edition.

    • A working link to the published web article.

    • A digital copy of the broadcast segment.

These are used for Acme News’ portfolio, award submissions, and promotional purposes.

    Enforcement & Remedies

Unauthorized use of content outside your original license, outlet, or territory may result in fees of up to 200% of the original license cost, plus legal remedies.
