Corrections & Retractions Policy

At Acme News, accuracy is at the core of our mission. Whether publishing on our public site or providing licensed editorial content to our outlets, we are committed to correcting mistakes promptly, clearly, and transparently.

When we make a mistake, we fix it. It’s that simple.
Corrections
  • Minor Corrections: Small errors such as typos, grammar, or formatting will be corrected as soon as possible. These do not typically require a correction note unless they affect meaning.

  • Factual Corrections: Errors involving names, dates, figures, or quotes will be corrected in the original story and accompanied by a clear correction note that explains what was wrong, the corrected information, and when the change was made.

  • Significant Corrections: If an error materially changes the understanding of a story, a detailed correction will be published prominently within the article. Outlets who received the affected story will be notified directly with the corrected version.

Retractions

In rare cases, if a story is found to contain fundamental errors or is based on faulty information:

  • The original article will be archived and replaced with a retraction notice on our public site.

  • The notice will explain why the story was retracted and, where possible, provide corrected reporting.

  • Outlets who received the story will be promptly notified of the retraction, provided with corrected content if available, and advised not to use or redistribute the retracted version.

Updates vs. Corrections

  • Updates: Reflect new or additional information as a story develops (common in breaking news). These are not corrections.

  • Corrections: Fix errors in previously published or distributed content.

  • Outlets & Licensed Content

When errors are discovered in work-for-hire assignments or licensed editorial content, we will:

    • Issue a correction or retraction notice directly to the outlet(s) that received the content.

    • Provide corrected versions promptly.

    • Maintain clear records of corrections and retractions to avoid future confusion.

    Transparency & Accountability

    • Public Reporting: All substantive corrections and retractions on our site are clearly labeled and time-stamped. We do not silently remove errors without acknowledgment.

    • Outlets: Partners and clients receive direct, written notifications of any corrections or retractions to ensure their reporting remains accurate.

    Reader & Outlet Feedback

We encourage readers and partners to help us maintain accuracy.

    • For readers: If you see an error in our reporting, you can report it using the "Report a typo, correction, update, or problem" link at the bottom of each page, or contact the news desk by email at [email protected].

    • For outlets: Please reach us at [email protected] or the editor for correction or retraction questions related to distributed content.

All correction requests are reviewed by editorial leadership.
